留学生達が日本に届ける支援の心
Exchange students at UOP join aid efforts
"We aren't asking for huge donations, though a generous gift would be appreciated," Asumi Kojima, one of the Pacific students from Japan, said through a university statement. "We are asking for people to donate their pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters or anything they can spare."
The fundraiser - organized by the 11 Japanese students - will continue in front of the Pacific bookstore from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The students also will collect hand-written prayers that anyone would like to send to Japan.

Upper school students have shown true camaraderie by taking immediate action to support their Japanese classmates after the devastating effects of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
DEAG (Disaster Emergency Action Group) is a community service group at TASIS run by Student Activities Coordinator, Mrs. Reinikainen, and is comprised of upper school students who raise money for charity throughout the year.
As soon as the news hit headlines on 11th March, DEAG called an emergency meeting to decide on a plan of action. Students decided to raise money and awareness throughout the TASIS community. They created an action plan that includes: money collection boxes, lapel solidarity stickers of the Japanese flag, coin jar races, and fundraising sales of cupcakes, red and white bracelets, and specialist Japanese food – including sushi, noodles, and candies.
Headmaster, Mr. McBrien, along with DEAG have decided to dedicate the week of 1-7th April as Japan week at TASIS to encourage more support for this worthy cause.
Mrs. Reinikainen is proud of the students, commenting: “As soon as the news of the earthquake broke, students from many different countries came to ask me how they could help with fundraising for the victims in Japan, and how they could support fellow Japanese students in our school. I feel very proud of the strong sense of community we have at TASIS.”
